If you are getting ready to purchase or sell real estate, there is one thing you need to know about the industry – it isn’t perfect. While there are plenty of rules and regulations that your real estate agent must follow, each has their own way of doing things beyond that. One thing that most would agree about is that there are a few things they really wish you already knew before you get started down that road:
1. Your agent only wants to help. You can be certain that they’ve seen it all when it comes to dealing with both buyers and sellers. Some of the advice and questions they ask may seem counterproductive to you, but their experience tells them what works. Yes, some things may seem trivial, but if you want to get the best results, trust them.
2. Communication is key. If you don’t understand something, don’t let pride keep you from asking for an explanation. Your agent is only human and can’t read your mind, despite the experience they have. On the flip side, don’t avoid talking about things that they need to know. They can’t help you if you only give them half of the information they need.
3. Have patience. Selling a home often takes longer than you think and so does finding the right home if you’re a buyer. Also, keep in mind that often, delays are not within the control of your real estate agent. In fact, you may cause some of them yourself inadvertently. Your agent is just as interested in getting to closing promptly as you are. If you have questions about what is slowing things up and if there is something you can do, feel free to ask.
