Buy a House in Wasaga Beach – It’s Got Blue Flag Status!
Blue Flag is an internationally recognized and highly respected eco-label. Blue Flag status is awarded to marinas and beaches that meet stringent criteria regarding safety, water quality, environmental management, and environmental education.
In Canada, Blue Flags are flying at 4 marinas and 24 beaches, one of which is WasagaBeach in the Georgian Bay area. This stunning beach received its status on June 6, 2007.
If you’re in the market to buy a house in this part of Ontario, you’ll be interested to learn what some of the Blue Flag criteria are.
- The quality of bathing water must be excellent. Samples are regularly taken for testing to ensure the water meets national standards and legislation.
- Promoting sustainability through educational activities is an integral part of the program. These activities can range from training programs for municipal staff to educational signage.
- At every Blue Flag site, a dedicated beach management committee is set up to conduct audits of the facilities and the site. Moreover, the committee must ensure that the beach’s natural habitat is managed sustainably and protected. So, when you buy a house here, you know you’re in a really ‘green’ area.
- Blue Flag beaches must be accessible and safe for people of all ages, as well as those with disabilities. First-aid and lifesaving equipment, or lifeguards, must also be available.
